1st Grade Match Summary Round 2

1st Grade Match Summary Round 2

Prospect defeat Southern District

We lost the toss and Prospect had a bat on a damp morning at Prospect Oval. Things started pretty well picking up a few wickets consistently throughout the first morning. With the score at 4/140 midway through the day the game was in the balance. Prospect then put on a good partnership and finished the day at 6/318. Tanner 2/93 was the only multiple wicket taker, with Roberts, Stewart, Marshall all taking 1. Stewart also got a run out. Prospect declared overnight leaving us with 319 to win on Day 2. Things got off to a slow start with the bat with us sitting at 2/53 at lunch. We picked up the pace through the middle session and were 4/157 at tea time. Unfortunately a couple of quick wickets straight after tea left the tail with too much work to do and we were bowled out for 227 with just 7 overs left in the day. Narrowly missing out on a draw.

Barrett 56, Tanner 34, Sugg 31 the leading run scorers.

1st Grade Match Summary

Southern District defeat Adelaide

Adelaide won the toss and sent us in on a pitch that looked like it had a bit in it for the bowlers. We played quite well and we’re 2/60 at lunch. A large partnership between Josh Barrett and Shaun Tanner saw us to 3/200 before they both fell.

At Stumps on Day 1 we were well poised at 9/259. We continued batting on Day 2, making our way to all out for 274.

Barrett 93 & Tanner 72 the leading run scorers.

Our Bowling innings started well picking up a couple of early wickets and Adelaide were 2 down at lunch.

Wickets weren’t easy to come by but we persisted and were able to take a couple quick wickets right before the second break to have Adelaide 5 down at Tea.

In the last session we needed 5 wickets and Adelaide needed 100 runs, the game was in the balance. We picked up a couple wickets through the session and as the session went deep the game got closer.

We ended up taking the last wicket with 9 balls remaining in the day and were victors by 7 runs.

Shaun Tanner 4/62, Mitch Cuming 2/26 and Jake Marshall 2/38 were the best with the ball.

Southern District Cricket Club Season Launch

Posted by Stingrays on 11 October 2022

Southern District Cricket Club had our season launch last Thursday night, with over 100 players and supporters in attendance.

Club President Nigel Smart welcomed new members to the club, and spoke about all our valued sponsors. Junior Coordinator Ripu Soodan gave the juniors and their parents a run down of the season ahead and the expectations of Premier Cricket. Ray Sutton coach Justin Ifould announced the Ray Sutton squad for the season with Club Captain Josh Barrett presenting them all with playing caps. Club Senior Coach Andrew Zesers then challenged all the players in the room to get out their comfort zones and get the best out of themselves, before announcing the 1st Grade XI for Round 1.

A big thank you to Stevie Kerr and Josh Clayton who cooked the BBQ, Sam Jones and Kuang Tan who helped serve meals and Linda Long for running the raffle. Without volunteers like them, we can’t have successful evenings like Thursday night.
